Angela Khoury
Executive Director
Angela Khoury was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. Despite the civil war and its imposing burden, she pursued engineering, graduating from l’Ecole Superieure des Ingenieurs de Beyrouth in 1990.
Angela’s professional career began in France in 1991, where she joined Murex, a fintech start-up. In September 1992, she moved to the US, becoming the first employee to work remotely with the company. Over the next 19 years, Angela contributed to Murex’s growth from a small start-up to an international company with over 2000 employees. As Director of Training from 2000 to 2011, she established and led training centers in Paris, New York, Beirut, and Tokyo, creating comprehensive programs for internal recruits and clients. Prior to this, she served as Director of Interface and Integration, developing custom software solutions for major financial institutions. While building a family with three children and engaging in an active life in the US, Angela’s early career at Murex laid a strong foundation in project management, client relations, and software development, significantly contributing to the company’s global presence.
In parallel to her professional life, Angela was always involved in various volunteer positions with her church and with various non-profit organizations, including the Alif Institute, and the Cedar Club of Atlanta.
In 2012, after retiring from her 20-year career with Murex and driven by her passion to share the Arabic culture, Angela became the executive director of Alif Institute, the only Arab American Cultural Center in Georgia. Angela significantly enhanced the center’s presence in Atlanta through cultural and educational programs. She restructured the Annual Atlanta Arab Festival, growing it to 50+ vendors and 5000+ attendees, and tripled the institute’s budget in five years. She built a dedicated team of 15 staff and 200+ volunteers, organized successful fundraising events, and secured grants from prominent foundations. Her efforts fostered collaborations with major cultural and educational institutions and strengthened ties with over 22 Arab-American organizations in the greater Atlanta area.
From 2018 to 2023, Angela served as the Associate Director of Development at the American University of Beirut (AUB), focusing on fundraising efforts to support education and healthcare in Lebanon and the Middle East. She built strong relationships with major donors, securing several endowed funds for the university and its affiliated hospital, the American University of Beirut Medical Center. Her efforts included organizing large-scale fundraising events, leading multiple crowdfunding initiatives, and coordinating numerous alumni and stewardship events across the U.S. and Lebanon, significantly enhancing AUB’s outreach and support
Since 1991, Angela has returned to Lebanon annually, maintaining close ties with friends, family, and key figures in Lebanese business and organizations. Her work with the American University of Beirut has further strengthened these connections. Angela remains an active member of the Alif Institute and continues to stay deeply connected to her home country, Lebanon.
